Instructions
You have been hired as a consultant by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to assist in deciding how best to distribute funding from a new grant. A generous philanthropist has donated a large sum of restricted funds to address nutritional issues in Asia. Through a needs assessment, the key nutritional issues have been identified as overnutrition and undernutrition (previously known as obesity and malnutrition).
Unfortunately, while generous, the donor only earmarked enough funding for one large-scale project. USAID has identified that the logistics would prevent the money from covering a program that could address both undernutrition and overnutrition. Your role as consultant is to tell the agency whether overnutrition or undernutrition should be funded.
In your journal assignment, be sure to address the following:
Choose one country in Asia and state which program you would advise to fund (i.e., overnutrition or undernutrition).
Support your choice of which burden to address by using statistics that are specific to your chosen country and your chosen burden.
Discuss the factors you considered in making your recommendation, including economics, cultural barriers, feasibility, and need.
Explain how your recommendation will impact the overall public good or benefit the target population.
For additional details, please refer to the Module Eight Journal Guidelines and Rubric PDF document.
