“In what way advanced speciality nurses’ personal values and beliefs should not interfere with the delivery of their nursing care when preparing the care of critically ill patient and family (Green, 2022)” there are certain times in a nurses career where it is difficult to assimilate the decisions that a patient is making in regards to their medical care. It can be related to the nurses personal beliefs or in some cases, just the feeling of understanding the medical diagnosis more than the patient. There are several factors that need to be considered if there are differing values between patients and nurses. One factor being if the patient would have any type of harm done, because the nurse is so compelled with her beliefs she may interrupt a procedure, neglect to administer a medication, avoid caring for the patient or just being overall to vocal about the decision the patient makes which interrupts the patients healing. There are certain things that are required in order to take care of the person as a whole person and to remember that they are free to make their own choices, “a multidimensional, integrated approach; the importance of the therapeutic relationship; acknowledging doctors’ humanity; recognizing patients’ individual personhood; viewing health as more than absence of disease; and employing a range of treatment modalities (Mitchell, 2018).
